Khilna { to bloom }
Mixed Media on Linen
3ft x 4ft
This is my final project for my course, Foundation in Art and Design at the University of the Arts London.
Mixed media piece: Oil paints, oil pastels, acrylic paints, epoxy clay, lino print and mehandi.
This piece explores an idea of an Indian lesbian couple existing in the olden times, a response to the comments about queerness being a "foreign concept". My inspiration for this painting was to create a representation I would've liked to see growing up. I have named it "Khilna", which means 'to bloom' in Hindi. Taken from the literal flowers blooming all over the artwork, as well as the metaphorical meaning of the couple's love blooming.
